Solunar Is a Modifier, Not a Magic Clock

Solunar tables are popular because they are simple.

Major window. Minor window. Moon overhead. Moon underfoot. Better bite.

There may be useful signal there for some species and contexts, but it is not a magic clock. A solunar window cannot fix low oxygen, wrong temperature, dead tide, poor clarity, or a species that is out of its seasonal pattern.

Gilli treats solunar as a modifier, not the forecast.

Moon Effects Are Contextual

Moonlight can affect feeding.

Tide is related to lunar cycle. Nocturnal visibility can change predator and prey behavior. Some fisheries show correlations with lunar phase or moon position.

But the effect is not universal.

Species, habitat, light, water clarity, tide, prey, and angling method all matter.

Small Weight Is the Honest Weight

A solunar signal can be useful at the margin.

If the water temperature is favorable, oxygen is good, clarity fits the species, and timing is otherwise plausible, a solunar window may help refine the best part of the session.

That is different from letting it dominate the score.

The model should not turn a biologically poor day into a great one because the moon clock looks good.

Tide Is Not Solunar

For marine fishing, tide and current often matter more directly than moon labels.

A lunar cycle helps drive tide, but fish respond to water movement, bait movement, depth access, and current behavior. A tide-stage or current-regime signal is usually more practical than a generic moon score.

The forecast should prefer mechanisms when it has them.

Useful Copy Matters

If the app surfaces solunar context, it should avoid mystical language.

Better: "minor timing boost" or "weak supportive signal."

Worse: "fish are guaranteed to feed."

The first helps. The second damages trust.

The Best Use

Solunar is best used to choose between plausible windows, not to rescue implausible ones.
