Privacy Policy for NGA - Anchor Alarm

Last Updated: June 14, 2026 · Effective Date: June 2026

Also see our Terms of Use.

NGA - Anchor Alarm is a small anchor alarm for sailors, built by Pelagic Labs. NGA means Not Going Anywhere. It watches your boat's GPS position while an anchor watch is active and sounds an alarm if the boat drifts outside the area you set.

NGA is private by default. There is no account system, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and no third-party server. This policy explains what data NGA handles and how optional iCloud remote watch works.

1. Data Stored On Your Device

NGA stores anchor watch data locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device storage. Local data is protected by iOS Data Protection encryption and remains on your device unless you choose to enable remote watch.

1.1 What is stored locally

  • Location fixes: GPS positions used to compare the boat with the anchor point
  • Anchor watch settings: Anchor point, radius, swing arc, alarm state, and related watch configuration
  • Session history: Watch history and related session records stored on device
  • App preferences: Vessel name, display preferences, alarm settings, and remote watch setting
  • Current watch snapshot: A small local status snapshot shared with the widget, Live Activity, Dynamic Island, and Apple Watch companion app

1.2 What we do not collect

NGA does not collect personal identifiers, advertising IDs, device fingerprints, contact lists, photos, usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioural tracking data.

2. Location Data

NGA uses background location only while an anchor watch is active. Location is used to compare your live boat position with the anchor point and swing area you set.

  • Active watch only: Background location is used only during an active anchor watch
  • Local processing: Drift detection runs on your device
  • History on device: Location and session history stay on device unless remote watch is enabled
  • Permission controlled by you: You can revoke location access in iOS Settings

3. Optional iCloud Remote Watch

Remote watch is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, NGA syncs the current watch status through your private iCloud database so your own devices can view the watch state and receive companion alerts.

  • Your private iCloud: Remote watch uses your private CloudKit database
  • No third-party server: NGA does not send remote watch data to a Pelagic Labs server or any third-party server
  • No developer access: The developer cannot read your iCloud private database
  • Current status only: Remote watch is for the current watch status, not a general tracking service
  • Revocable: You can turn remote watch off in the app

4. No Accounts, Analytics, Ads, or Tracking

NGA does not require or offer user accounts. There is no login, registration, email collection, password, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, attribution SDK, or third-party tracking code.

5. Apple First-Party Services

NGA uses Apple platform services to provide app features.

  • Core Location: Anchor watch positioning and drift detection
  • CloudKit private database: Optional remote watch, only if enabled
  • Apple Push Notifications: iCloud remote watch companion alerts when remote watch is enabled
  • Live Activity and Dynamic Island: Current watch status on supported devices
  • Apple Watch: Companion status and controls

NGA includes no third-party SDKs.

6. Notifications and Audio

NGA asks for notification permission so it can alert you when the boat drifts outside the swing radius. Notifications are generated locally on your device. If remote watch is enabled, iCloud may also deliver a companion alert to your other devices.

NGA uses audio only to sound the alarm.

7. Apple Privacy Manifest

NGA includes Apple's required privacy manifest declaring its limited data use. The app declares no tracking and no third-party data collection.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

  • On-device persistence: Local watch data remains on your device for as long as the app is installed, unless you clear it in the app
  • Local deletion: Deleting the app deletes local app data
  • iCloud deletion: If remote watch created iCloud data, you may also need to remove that data through iCloud or app settings

9. Your Data Rights

Because NGA does not operate accounts or a third-party server, Pelagic Labs does not hold user profiles or server-side watch records. You can manage your data by clearing history in the app, turning remote watch off, deleting the app, revoking permissions in iOS Settings, or managing any created iCloud data through iCloud or app settings.

10. Children

NGA is not directed at children and does not collect data from anyone.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated Last Updated date. Because NGA does not collect email addresses or user accounts, we cannot notify you directly.
