Work

Five builds, all designed and coded by us. Three are on the App Store.

  1. NORDR

    Design, iOS, web, forecast backend

NORDR forecast for Klitmøller with wave, wind and tide
    Problem
North Sea surfers hop between forecast sites and still drive to a flat beach. They needed one call per break.
    Build
An iPhone app built with Expo and React Native, on a forecast backend we run ourselves. Each of the 65 breaks is scored against its own offshore wind, tide and swell window.
    Outcome
On the App Store, with a spot page on this site for each of the 65 breaks.

  2. GILLI

    Design, iOS, ML

GILLI analysis for European seabass at Nieuwpoort with score, best window and tide
    Problem
Anglers at sea and on fresh water plan from weather apps built for someone else. They needed forecasts, a catch log and species ID in one place.
    Build
An iPhone app built with Expo and React Native. Photo species ID runs on a PyTorch model behind a FastAPI service we host. Basemaps and species data can be downloaded for use with no signal.
    Outcome
On the App Store since April 2026, now on version 5.0.0.

  3. Freyja

    Design, iOS, on-device AI

Freyja Today screen with cycle day, UV and water log
    Problem
Women track their cycle, water, sun and mood across separate apps, and most of those apps want an account and a server. Freyja keeps all of it in one app, on the phone.
    Build
A Swift app for iPhone with no server and no account. The assistant runs on Apple's on-device model, answers from the user's own logs and declines medical questions.
    Outcome
Free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

  4. Meerkaartor

    Desktop, GIS

    Problem
Many lake depth charts exist only on paper. GILLI needed them as map layers.
    Build
A desktop tool for one operator. It georeferences scanned paper charts so they line up with the map, then cuts them into tiles.
    Outcome
    Lake depth charts in GILLI.

    Meerkaartor in the lab

Meerkaartor review step for Rådasjön with the depth render over satellite imagery and the approval checks
Depth render and checks before publishing
  5. PelagicLabs site

    Design, Next.js, i18n

    Problem
The studio needed one site for its services, journal and apps. GILLI and NORDR had to look like their own apps.
    Build
Next.js with next-intl and Tailwind, hosted on Vercel. The studio, GILLI and NORDR are three design systems in one codebase, each with light and dark mode.
    Outcome
Live at pelagiclabs.io in English, Swedish and Dutch. The NORDR page is also in French, German, Danish and Norwegian.
